The Dev South occurrence is located at an elevation of approximately 1800 metres on an east-west–trending ridge, northwest of Bev Creek and approximately 9 kilometres west of the creek's junction with the Nabesche River.

Regionally, the area is underlain by Paleozoic platformal carbonates of the Ancestral North America terrane and includes the Silurian Nonda Formation, Silurian-Devonian Muncho-McConnell Formation and Lower and Middle Devonian Stone Formation and Middle Devonian Dunedin Formation dolomites and limestones, overlain by Devonian and Carboniferous Besa Formation shale, which compose the southeast limb and south-plunging nose of the Bernard anticline.

Locally, galena associated with white dolomite and minor quartz occurs as the matrix of a solution breccia, occasionally replacing the host, over an area of 120 by 180 metres. The mineralization occurs at the base of the Dunedin Formation or possibly in Stone Formation (upper unit) dolomite/mudstone.

In 1973, samples from the occurrence yielded greater than 1 per cent zinc and lead, respectively, with up to 31 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 4791).

Work History

In 1973, Canadian Superior Exploration Ltd. completed a program of prospecting, geological mapping and geochemical (rock and soil) sampling on the area as the Dev group of claims.
